CodeRED
The
City of Shelton has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license
its CodeRED high-speed notification solution. The CodeRED system provides
Shelton officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or
the entire city. The system will be active on July 1, 2013.
Code Red is only as good as
the telephone number database supporting them. If your phone number is not in
the database, you will not be called. One of the reasons the CodeRED system was
selected is it gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own
phone numbers directly into the system's secure database.
All businesses should register, as well as all
individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number
or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP
phone as their primary number.
Registration can be done by
going to www.sheltonpolice.net ,
clicking on ‘Emergency Notifications’ and then clicking on ‘CodeRed’. For people
without Internet access they can stop in the police department and fill out the
CodeRed form and the data will be entered in the system.
CTAlert
The
Shelton Police Department utilizes the State of Connecticut emergency
notification system to notify those who live and work in the City of Shelton in
the event of an emergency. Residents may also sign up to be notified by
the Shelton Police Department for routine notifications as well.
On September 1, 2009,
CT Alert ENS is managed by the State Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
The CT Alert ENS uses the state’s Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) database for location-based notifications to the public for life-threatening emergencies. But the E9-1-1 database includes only traditional wire-line telephone numbers in the state (the “land line” phone you may have in your home).
